Today I have added the second of three new photo galleries for the week. This one features color images from the Jets at Patriots preseason game played on September 1, 1963. As always, you can find the images in the PHOTO GALLERIES section of the site.
Great photos. #79 of the Jets is Sherman Plunkett. Sherman was able to escape the rigors of the Chargers Rough Acres training camp when Weeb Ewbank purchased the contract of Sherman a few days before the Jets first exhibition game. Weeb had coached Plunkett in Baltimore. The purchase worked out well for the Jets, Sherman and Broadway Joe.

I noticed the Jets have no logos on their helmets. Is this because it’s a preseason game. Or is it because it’s their first season as the Jets and not the Titans? Love this photo thanks for posting it! 🙂
PS nice to see lots of fans at an AFL game in preseason. I collect quite a few AFL photos from the Buffalo Bills and San Diego Chargers an occasional Dallas Texans or Oakland Raiders photo, and the thing that strikes me the most is that oftentimes the stands are quite empty especially in the early days.
