This game, at Fenway Park, was one of the greatest in Patriots’ AFL history. In the final minute, following a Blanda field goal (24-22 Oilers), slow-footed Babe Parilli scrambled for twenty or more yards, stepping out of bounds at the Oilers’ 34. One second remained, maybe two. The best straight ahead kickers in those days missed nearly half of their attempts, and had greater difficulty getting the lift that soccer style kickers achieve today. Gino Cappelletti’s 41 yard try barely avoided the onrushing Oilers, taking a low trajectory that cleared the uprights, barely. 25-24 Patriots. This kick appears on one of the AFL Showtime videos, but without identification. An unforgettable AFL memory.
Yes, that was a great game, but this photo is not from it. The Nov. 6, 1964 game was a Friday night game in Boston. It would have been dark even at the start of a Friday night game in Boston in November. I was at the game, and it was dark that night. The light in this photo looks like a Sunday afternoon game.
‘Name That Game’ – because what’s more fun than trying to place a game played half a century ago. I enlarged the picture and came to the conclusion the game was not from November 6, 1964, though it was from a game played in 1964.
Houston’s #46 Bobby Jackson (pictured behind #25 Ode Burrell) came to the Oilers that year aft playing for the Raiders earlier that season, including their November 8 game vs the Chiefs in Kansas City in which he carried the ball 1x. Thus, Jackson would not have been playing for the Oilers vs the Patriots on November 6, likely.
Too, far left appears a Houston lineman wearing a numeral ending in 3. Jerry Fowler, #53, was their only offensive lineman who wore a numeral ending in #3 that year (he played in only 4 regular season games.)
Boston is wearing red (signifying home game) and as it was not November 6 based on the aforementioned research and could not have been 1965 (#53 Fowler was gone by then) nor 1963 (#25 Burrell was still in college),
My best guess: that picture is from an exhibition game played August 9, 1964 at Boston College. But then what do I know… I’m an old Chiefs fan.

Emily Litella of Saturday Night Live fame: never mind? Because if it was an exhibition game played August 9, 1964, Jackson would not yet have been with Houston (he was still with Oakland), and so perhaps it was from an exhibition game played in 1965, Jackson & Fowler still on the team before being released pre-1965 regular season.

That is some good deduction. I was just looking at what a great action pic it is…nice detail work in the field of play though it’s not a typical “pocketphoto ” . Gonna browse these.
I just ran into these photos again. None of them are from the Nov. 6, 1964 game between the Pats and the Oilers. The game was a Friday night game at Fenway Park that started at 8 PM. Sunset in Boston was at 4:31 PM that day so it would have been dark at the very start of the game. I was at the game. I was 11 years old. Lead changed back and forth. At the very end Parilli scrambled for dear life to get close enough to make it a 41 yard try for Geno. He made the kick and the Pats won the game as time expired. My Dad and I went out onto the field after the kick. I mean, I know it was dark for the whole game, but just to verify it I found online, a page from some old publication that is listed with some other memorabilia at auction which lists the games and start times for the ’64 season. Game started at 8, at night. It was dark. These photos are not from a night game.
