I recently picked up a book called 106 Yards, the autobiography of Al Carmichael, which I will review in the near future. The book had a nice section of material pertaining to the 1960 Denver broncos, Carmichael’s lone season with the team. One item that I found particularly interesting was a scanned page from a 1980 insert in The Denver Post, that listed several “AFL Firsts,” from the league’s first regular season game, a contest between the Denver broncos and Boston Patriots, on September 9, 1960.
I wonder how many paid attendence there was for that game
today is Bob McNamaras’82nd birthday, Happy birthday Bob! Bob played with Bud grant in Winnipeg and both are former Minnesota Golden Gophers. Bob was CFL All Star in 1956 held in BC Vancouver. That 1956 All Star game was marred by tragedy as several players and an official were killed in a plane crash after the game.
Mcnamara played in Winnipeg with former UCLA two time All American Bob Davenport and in Denver with USCs’ Al Carmichael, both Davenport and carmichael were from So Cal, Davenport went to Long Beach Jordan and Carmichael Gardena.
