Ralph Wilson Jr. (Owner)
It was 55 years ago yesterday that Ralph Wilson, owner of the Buffalo Bills, first met with Buffalo-area politicians to negotiate a lease for his team to play in The Old Rockpile. A short story on this subject was posted yesterday in The Buffalo News, and can be found HERE.
Saw my first pro game in the Rockpile..walked there from my Grandparents house with my Dad, (he mostly carried me…to see rookie O.J. Simpson returning kickoffs vs Steelers in pre-season, went to first game at Rich Stadium in 72 saw Redskins return opening kickoff of pre-season 102 yards..Now there is talk of a new stadium in downtown Buffalo..what a great run it’s been with our love of the Bills. In 1984 got to play the High School Baseball Championship in the Rockpile..talk about a thrill..loved that old stadium ! It was perfect for Buffalo and is missed..
Great pictures from the Buffalo News.I was wondering if you had other gallery pictures from the early AFL days. Jeppesen Stadium and Balboa Stadium always interested me. Their is plenty of history in both of them.
