The Miami Dolphins joined the American Football League in 1966, in the league’s first expansion. The team was cobbled together with college draft picks, free agent signings, and AFL veterans whose teams had made them available in the expansion draft. Led by head coach George Wilson and sometimes by quarterback George Wilson, Jr. (yes, that is the coach’s son), the Dolphins struggled through their first season and finished with a 3-11 record.

Great video. I consider the Dolphin’s the best AFL team ever. This is based on artificially extending the life of the AFL past the merger for a few years. The 1970-1975 teams were incredible. They had to play Oakland, Pittsburgh, Dallas, Baltimore and other great teams. They beat Kansas City in a 1971 playoff that matched arguably the greatest AFL team, the Chiefs. They went from a hapless team in 1966 to a playoff team in 1970. And they went to three Super Bowls in a row. Just a great story!
