As many of you likely know, back in 2009, NFL Films produced a five-part special on the American Football League called Full Color Football. It is an excellent series, with hours of wonderful, original AFL footage and interesting interviews.
Ange Coniglio, the man behind the Remember the AFL website (www.remembertheafl.com) and one of the interview subjects in Full Color Football, recently emailed to let AFL fans know that the full five-part series is now available on YouTube. After conversing with Ange, I have put together a separate page on Tales from the American Football League from which readers can also view the series. You will find the FULL COLOR FOOTBALL link in the site’s left-hand column, under the MORE GREAT AFL CONTENT! heading.
These are hour-long episodes, so I would suggest a nice drink and snack, a comfortable chair, and the time to truly enjoy this remembrance of the AFL.
Ange has been a tireless historian, archivist and “keeper of the flame”. Todd, you are out of the same mold and greatly appreciated by those of us who remember, or want to know our football “roots”. Thx!
@Chris Buford, well said!
Todd, Those of us who were kids during the sixties who grew up watching the AFL, hating that other, inferior league, and just generally enjoying our status as rebels, Thank you and Ange C for bringing our league back to us. One of the worst days in my young life was when they announced the merger.
Wow. That’s serious. I learned about the AFL through reading books in the late ’70’s. However, I’m now truly learning about it IN DEPTH. The impact of the AFL hits home when I hear statements like “One of the worst days of my young life was when they announced the merger.”
I recall when ‘Full Color Football’ first aired a few years ago (on HBO was it?), I heard the NFL was going to release it on dvd ‘eventually’; like Chicago’s Cubs, still waiting (and yeah, I recorded my own copy off television/have enjoyed it immensely, NFL (you sanctimonious, greedy b******s.)
Why the angst?
I also read an article a couple of years ago that references the Holy Grail of lost treasures: Superbowl I on video FOUND (the link below) aft years of searching.

Alas, no further word to date. Naturally, NFL has their boarding-house reach in effect, per the usual. Result – no dvd has yet/may ever be forthcoming the many fans that era who still prefer said product compared today’s less filling serving.
$ickening.
That the NFL tried (and failed) the time of the New Orleans Saints Superbowl appearance 2010 claim exclusive right/ownership the ‘Fluer- De- Lis’ & ‘Who Dat?’ slogan is just another indicator that football as we once knew it – while always a business – is now nothing but a ca$h cow final analysis, my opine.
So, I happily watch my collection old dvd’s, vhs & film dating back the 1950s…
